Five Ways to Celebrate Valentine's Day with Your Dog

Valentine’s Day is a time to cherish those we care about, and our dogs love us unconditionally so they deserve to be spoiled.

Read on for my top ideas to make your furry Valentine feel special this February 14th…

Go for a long stroll

Get outside and enjoy some new walking trails with your pooch. Whether it’s a stroll along the coastline or a woodland walk, it’s a great way to enjoy some quality bonding time with your favourite four-legged friend.

Enjoy dinner out

Many restaurants and pubs are pooch-friendly these days, so why not enjoy a nice romantic meal with your furry friend by your side. One of my favourite dog-friendly restaurant chains is The Lounges. Pups are welcome inside, and they serve lovely food and drinks with a wide range of vegan and gluten-free options.

Have a cosy night in

Enjoy a relaxing evening snuggled up together on the sofa with a romantic movie. My top film picks are Lassie and 101 Dalmatians.

Bake them a treat

Show them how much you care by whipping up some homemade biscuits. Here’s a simple-to-make recipe from The Kennel Club to help get you started…

Valentine’s Day apple and peanut butter dog treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana

  • 150g wholewheat flour

  • 40g peanut butter (xylitol-free)

  • 1 egg

  • 30g apple sauce (unsweetened)

  • 50g finely chopped apple, pips and core removed

Method:

  • Preheat your oven to 180C.

  • Put the banana in a large mixing bowl and mash using a fork.

  • Add in all of the other ingredients.

  • Combine until the mixture forms a dough.

  • Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out until it is a 1/4 inch thick.

  • Cut out your biscuits using a heart-shaped biscuit cutter.

  • Place the treats onto a baking tray and bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

  • Once baked, place onto a wire cooling rack and leave to cool completely before giving to your pooch.

Book a romantic weekend trip

Make them feel extra special by booking a pooch-friendly getaway. If you really want to pamper them, Lower Mill Estate in the Cotswolds has launched a doggy fine dining menu this February. They will be offering three different gourmet meals for pets to enjoy alongside their humans. With something to suit all tastes, your pooch is sure to love it! Click here to book your stay.

Whatever you get up to, I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
